Seven of the hottest free agents on the UK wrestling scene

The British wrestling scene has traditionally been a breeding ground for talent, producing some of the industry’s biggest stars over the years.

William Regal, Finlay and British Bulldog are just a few of the names who have forged legacies in the sport, while Drew McIntyre has established himself as one of the top stars in WWE more recently.

Here are seven of the most exciting talents currently on the UK scene and why big things could be around the corner for them.

Michael Oku

Fans of British wrestling were already well aware of what Michael Oku can do between the ropes but he gained global attention following his bout with Will Ospreay at RevPro High Stakes in February.

It was Ospreay’s farewell before officially becoming a full-time member of the AEW roster and the pair delivered a 47-minute masterpiece to conclude their three-year story, with Oku finally getting the victory.

Dave Meltzer awarded the match one of his famous five-star ratings, describing it as “one of the best matches” he has ever seen, and plenty of fans around the world were calling for Oku to be signed by a major promotion.

Millie McKenzie

At just 23 years of age, Millie McKenzie has already made big strides in the wrestling world – making a name for herself in Fight Club: Pro, Progress and Defiant before becoming one of the youngest members of the NXT UK roster.

She is no longer on WWE’s books but has since had success in Japan, winning the Sendai Girls World Championship last year after defeating Vent at Korakuen Hall. Japanese legend Meiko Satomura has played a big part in her wrestling journey so far.

There are big things ahead for McKenzie, who is currently sidelined by a wrist injury. Hopefully, it won’t be long until she is back in the ring doing what she does best.

Luke Jacobs

There can’t be many wrestlers on the UK scene with more momentum than Luke Jacobs, who continues to knock every opportunity he gets out of the park.

Also 23 years of age, Jacobs has been gaining a reputation for his hard-hitting style and was recently described as the ‘British Tomohiro Ishii’ by Meltzer. He initially made waves as part of the Young Guns with Ethan Allen but has shown what he can do in singles competition while Allen has been out of action due to injury.

Jacobs would be a perfect fit for New Japan and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him following in the footsteps of Gabriel Kidd – who is now killing it in Bullet Club after honing his craft in the LA Dojo.

Robbie X

Perhaps the most underrated wrestler on the planet, Robbie X has been doing great things in the ring for many years and never fails to wow the crowd with his insane feats of athleticism.

Arguably the biggest achievement of his career so far was wrestling on prime time TV as part of the World of Sport relaunch in 2016. He also competed at New Japan’s Royal Quest event in London a couple of years ago.

The high-flyer has continued to grind on the indie scene and got the chance to step in the ring with Mustafa Ali at RevPro last month, putting on an entertaining bout.

Ricky Knight Jr

The Knight family is well-known for producing wrestling talent, including former WWE and current AEW star Saraya (also known as Paige), and Ricky Knight Jr is hoping to become the latest member to make it big.

He has made a promising start to his career, holding the British Heavyweight Championship in RevPro after ending Ospreay’s two-year reign. Knight Jr is also the current Progress Atlas Championship – a title he has held for over a year since dethroning Big Damo at Chapter 150.

Sunshine Machine

Finishing with a tag team, Sunshine Machine have been one of the most consistent and charismatic acts on the British scene in recent memory. They are accomplished singles stars in their own right and have been teaming together for the past six years.

The duo have held gold in both RevPro and Progress, reigning for more than 350 days in the latter, and fans might also be familiar with their Escaping the Midcard series on YouTube.
